Procedure Steps:

  • Your face is cleansed and prepared.
  • The chemical solution is applied and left on.
  • You may feel mild stinging.
  • Skin redness or brown discoloration may occur in the days following the peel.
  • You may need to continue peel maintenance at home for 2 days.
  • The peeling process typically starts within 48 hours and lasts about a week. It may be delayed by 24 hours in some individuals.
  • No sweating for 72 hours (no vigorous exercise).
  • No sunbathing.
  • You may not pull off the dead skin; ask us how to manage your peeling skin when your peel is applied.

Risks and Recovery:

  • Itching is common; we provide a soothing balm for you to take home.
  • Sensitivity to the sun after peeling is normal; we provide a non-comedogenic sunscreen for you to take home.
  • Hyperpigmentation (brown blotches) may occur despite sunscreen use.
  • Permanent scarring is very rare (we have never seen it) and is usually associated with pulling off “dead” skin.

Remember to protect your fresh new skin layer by avoiding sun exposure and using sunblock. A medium chemical peel can be a great choice for addressing specific skin concerns!

PS – Peeling can occur in sheets, in flakes, or in rolls (rolls usually happen in the shower). There is no such thing as a peel-free peel. If there is no peeling, then it is exfoliation only.
